Forests
Honoring Kinship and Interconnection

Forests are a chorus of voices, speaking in the language of wind and water, roots and mycelia. Each being, from the oldest oak to the humblest moss, belongs to a story woven in reciprocity. The trees do not stand alone; they hold one another in quiet conversation beneath the soil, sharing water, nutrients, and wisdom through the vast fungal networks that bind them.

To walk in a Forest is to be invited into an ancient kinship, to feel the breath of the Earth moving in rhythm with our own.

Forests are our elders, offering their gifts freely—carbon held in their trunks, rain summoned from distant oceans, shelter for the winged and the four-legged. The rivers that flow from forested hillsides carry their nourishment far beyond the canopy, feeding not just the land but the deep ocean. In return, they ask for our care, our gratitude.

To honor the Forest is to remember our place within the sacred web of life, to listen with humility, and to give back in reciprocity. As we gather in conversation, let us do so as kin—ready to listen, to learn, and to give thanks for all that the Forest teaches us about how to live well in this world.

Planning Your Forest Gratitude Ceremony

March 22, 2025 at your own time
This is a coordinated prayer that you offer in your own landscape (not an online event)

ONE coordinates this global ceremony for people and Nature, so that each gratitude ceremony, including yours, becomes one of many bright shining lights across the Earth.

To help get you started with your ceremony, we’ve created a printable instruction sheet to guide you. This framework allows you to infuse your creativity and open heart into the ceremony.

We invite you to let us know you’re participating and to share your Forest love notes and stories through the “Let us know you’re participating” button.

Reciprocity is the cornerstone of a strong relationship with our Nature kin, and expressing gratitude is essential to building a co-creative partnership with our landscapes. Preparing for this ceremony and sharing your gratitude will deepen your connection and understanding with Forests.

As you express your gratitude for the Forest where you live, you’re contributing your heart and energy to a vibrant future for Earth and all life.

Gratitude for Forests

Beloved Sequoias, Sentinels of the Ages,

In the sacred hush of your presence, I am held within the vast embrace of eternity. Your towering forms, bathed in golden light, stand as living pillars of time, whispering the wisdom of countless generations into the wind. I am but a fleeting breath in your midst, yet in your presence, I feel boundless, infinite—a note in the grand symphony of life that you compose with every sigh of your emerald canopy.

You are the keepers of ancient memory, rooted deep in the womb of the Earth, your roots weaving through the fabric of creation itself. In your stillness, I hear the resonance of the cosmos, the heartbeat of the land, the sacred pulse of existence. You do not merely stand; you hold, you radiate, you become the very essence of divine embrace.

When I lean against your timeworn bark, I am transported beyond this world, into a realm where all life sings in unison. Here, in your grove, I am not alone. I am woven into the great and holy Oneness, a thread in the luminous tapestry of existence. You remind me that love is not merely given—it is embodied, it is lived, it is ever-present in the dance of branches swaying to the breath of the sky.

To walk among you is to tread upon sacred ground, to step into a cathedral not built by human hands, but shaped by the infinite patience of the Source of life itself. You teach me that strength is gentle, that time is a gift, and that love is an unbreakable bond between all living things. You are both guardians and guides, holding the balance between Heaven and Earth, your roots deep in the mystery below, your crowns reaching for the infinite above.

My heart swells with gratitude for you, my beloved kin. In your presence, I am more than myself—I am the river, the wind, the sky, the whisper of leaves in the morning hush. I am home.

Forever entwined in your embrace,

One who loves you
